Microneedling has been growing in popularity for many reasons, the first being that it provides an effective way to improve the skin without using surgical techniques or requiring that patients plan around downtime.
It’s also a fully customizable and versatile treatment that can address some of the most common skin concerns on the complexions of patients from all walks of life, including hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, acne, scars, poor skin texture, and uneven skin tone.
Microneedling treatments provide patients with a simple, 30-minute process that naturally improves their skin over time. If you want to smooth fine lines and wrinkles and increase your body’s natural collagen production, we can schedule a treatment plan to help you improve your complexion.
During the treatment process, we use tiny needles to puncture the skin. By the end of the treatment, your entire face will be covered with microchannels, also known as micro-injuries. The body responds to the treatment process by enacting an inflammatory response, a healing response, and increasing collagen and elastin growth to heal the area and perfect the skin.
The treatment can address some of the most common skin concerns by creating injuries that the body has to heal without causing scar tissue or any other adverse reactions.
The natural assumption would be that a needling treatment would be painful, but we apply a topical numbing cream to the skin before beginning the treatment to ensure patient comfort. This numbing cream will prevent you from feeling the needles penetrate your skin. You may feel a warming sensation and slight pressure, but you won’t have to worry about any discomfort.
Most patients need a series of treatments to achieve the best result. Microneedling treatments are typically scheduled in groups of three, with a month between each for the best results. This schedule gives the body time to heal the skin between treatments and grow new collagen.
One of the benefits of microneedling is that it doesn’t create scar tissue or damage the skin. Therefore, it can be scheduled long-term as a skin-perfecting treatment for those who want to reach different complexion goals.
Patients with more advanced signs of aging or acne scars may require more treatments to effectively improve their skin. During your initial consultation, we will evaluate your skin concerns and then design the right treatment plan for you.
Once your treatment is over, your skin may appear red and feel tight. This is completely normal and will subside within 24 hours. After your treatment is over, we will provide you with instructions about caring for your skin during the first days after your treatment. You should use gentle products to cleanse and moisturize your skin and temporarily discontinue the use of harsh anti-aging products, including those that qualify as exfoliating treatments and those with retinoids.
It’s also important to avoid sun exposure and wear quality sunscreen regardless of how long you spend outside. You should also avoid touching your face to spread bacteria to the treatment area and drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated. Typically patients are advised to wait until the day following their treatment to wear makeup. We will provide you with complete aftercare instructions and product recommendations to take the guesswork out of the post-care process.
The best candidates for Microneedling treatments are patients who want a natural way to improve their complexions without planning around significant downtime. If you have any open wounds, infections, or skin irritation in the planned treatment area, you must wait until your skin heals to undergo treatment. Additionally, pregnant and nursing women do not qualify for treatment, nor do those taking a prescription medication like Accutane.
If you are interested in this treatment but don’t know if you qualify, we can schedule an initial consultation to learn more about your medical history, current health, and skin to determine if microneedling is right for you.
